Most spinal manipulation involves the lumbar joints where the pain often manifests. William Hauxwell has spent over 2 decades perfecting a unique approach to manipulating sacroiliac joints (large joints in the pelvis) where the real problem is not just where the symptoms are. Even people with years of lower back pain can be pain-free after just 4 or 5 sessions
Ireland's Ultimate Lower Back Pain Solution
Castlewood Clinic
Lower back pain can be extremely debilitating and is a very common problem. 80% of people will have lower back pain at some point in their lives. A small percentage of lower back pain will have a specific cause that can be seen on an X-ray, MRI or blood test. Most lower back pain involves inflamed joints and muscle which do not show on images and in blood tests.
Research shows that a number of approaches can help lower back pain. Exercise, weight loss (if overweight), painkillers and spinal manipulation have all been shown to help people with lower back pain. Although very effective, a lot of people find that spinal manipulation on its own may alleviate their lower back pain but not get rid of it long term.
Lower Back Pain
William Hauxwell specialises in resolving lower back pain that has not responded to other treatments. Most people that come to see him have been treated by Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, other Osteopaths and surgeons without success.
William Hauxwell uses a unique and more effective treatment system which he has perfected over the last 2 decades. This system involves very precise manipulation of the sacroiliac joints (large joints in the pelvis). This system, its techniques and their superior results are unique in Osteopathy. William teaches this approach in the Osteopathic colleges of the UK and Ireland.
William Hauxwell has been practising as an Osteopath for 25 years and has an honours degreein Human sciences from Oxford University and an honours degree in Osteopathic Medicine from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He has taught Clinical Osteopathy at the Irish College of Osteopathic Medicine, the British College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Stillorgan Institute of Physical Therapy.

Diagnosis & Prognosis
At the end of the Osteopathic examination you will be told what the problem is and how much osteopathic treatment is required.
Given that treatment is appropriate your Osteopath will suggest which techniques Osteopathic or otherwise should be used and roughly how long it should take to get better.
Examination
Osteopathic examination involves visual and tactile assessment of each relevant joint and muscle. Your osteopath may also examine other body systems in the same way a doctor would examine you.
Clothing
As physical examination of a patient by an osteopath requires a very detailed hands on assessment of the whole body (not just the area where you are experiencing pain), you will be asked to undress to underwear.
If you are not happy with this, please wear or bring clothing that is easy to for your Osteopath to feel through eg. thin tracksuit.
What To Bring
Osteopathic Consultation
This may be used in conjunction with other Osteopathic techniques for the treatment of muscle strains and some upper back and shoulder problems.
Cranial Osteopathy is an extremely gentle type of Osteopathic technique used for the treatment of babies and disorders involving the head.
Treatments
Osteopaths use mobilisation or articulation to free up tight joints
Osteopaths use massage and stretching to loosen tight muscles.
This releases a restricted joint with a short thrust which may produce a cracking noise.
